My experience-ER Treatment that Worked!
I had to go to ER to break a migraine that just wouldn’t stop, no matter what I did. Nothing touched it- my rescue medication, regular medication, rest, ice, heat, you name it.
Usually when I’m at ER for migraines they do an IV treatment, which works but takes a long time and sometimes isn’t as effective as I’d like.
This time, the resident I saw offered a “sphenopalatine ganglion block”, which I had never heard of before. They apply a numbing agent up your nose (it’s about as uncomfortable as it sounds) with a syringe (no needle though, yay!). It numbs the trigeminal nerve that’s often responsible for one-sided migraines.
Guys it worked within 20 minutes. I’ve never felt relief like this so quickly! If you have a one-sided migraine that is also behind one eye, and have to go to ER- you may want to ask about this. It’s probably not for everyone but it helped me so much that I had to share the info!
