My experience-Amitriptyline + Other Migraine Worries

Hey all! First post but I’ve been lurking for a while…so thankful for this community!

I’ve had what I believe is migraines for the last 2 or 3 years. I couldn’t figure out what was going on at first, I would have headaches and nausea and just feel very fatigued. Usually it would last 5ish days and then I’d have a few days of relief. I was constantly going to my doctor to investigate possible causes but we couldn’t find anything wrong.

This past year I started having visual auras which made me think migraines. It seems to happen more often if the trigger is more intense. Like recently I was caught stuck beside a super loud fire alarm and I got a visual aura right away. I occasionally have tingling in my face as well which I guess could be an aura (?) I always thought that to have a migraine you had to have like a 10/10 headache, needing to hide in a dark room without even the slightest of noise and that wasn’t my experience. My doctor gave me Zomig which worked okay but some days I would take it, have relief for several hours, then I would need to take it again. I’m currently waited to get in to a migraine clinic.

In the meantime I was taking Zomig nearly every day. I went to my doctor concerned that this was too much and she seemed alarmed that my migraines were that bad. She wants me to get an MRI and I’ve got to admit that her alarm has really worried me that this is something more serious.

She also prescribed amitriptyline which I’ve taken for a few days. I haven’t had a migraine since taking it which is maybe a coincidence but maybe not considering how often I have migraines. I’ve noticed some weird side effects - mainly that I’m pretty tired when I wake up for a few hours. I’ve read that people sometimes get an increased appetite but I’ve found I have less of an appetite. I know it’s only been a couple days so it’s hard to assess. I’m taking 10mg for now.

Not sure what I’m looking for in posting this - I’m honestly terrified that I have some sinister condition and now I have to wait for an MRI to find out. Any comforting words would be welcome 🙏 also if anyone has had a similar experience with Amitriptyline I would love to hear about it!
