My experience-Has anyone ever had to stop taking a medication that helped with their migraines in preparation for an unrelated surgery?

Edit: as pointed out medications are very different from vitamins supplements and I should have worded my title better i due tend to think of my magnesium supplement as a medication since I was put on the regiment by my neurologist and it has completely changed my life and number of migraine days, so this post is more specifically for people who have migraine with aura and have benefitted from a daily magnesium regiment.

Some background info: I’m have a hysterectomy to hopefully make it so I don’t have to go under the knife ever again for my endometriosis. I’ve had endo removed 4 times in my life and now I’ve had my daughter. I don’t want more kids, I don’t want more endometriosis surgeries, I don’t want the government in my uterus.

I just got my Pre-Op preparation packet and it says I have to stop all vitamins and supplements for 2 weeks leading up to surgery.

I am one of the very lucky people who have migraine with aura that a regular magnesium regiment had knocked my number of migraines down from 3 a week to 4 or so a year. If I miss a singular night of magnesium I’ll have a migraine the next day.

While I will suffer for 2 weeks with migraines if I have to because my endometriosis is more distressing than my migraines and the hormones make it worse I would very much prefer to not spend 2 weeks off of magnesium and having tons of migraines.

Has anyone had to stop or been asked to stop any medication for their migraines for several weeks leading up to a surgery? We’re you able to be excused from doing that so you didn’t have migraines? If you weren’t allowed to continue them how did you manage?

I had mentally prepped for a lot of things I knew would be unpleasant with this surgery and recovery but I had not prepared for two weeks of migraines leading up to the surgery.
