My experience-Neurologist’s office refuses to approve more than 4 days off a month?!
I’ve been having daily migraines since January, and for the last 3 weeks they’ve been consistently severe (7-10 on the pain scale). I went to the ER last week because of the pain but only got relief for 12 hours. My current medications are not working (Propranolol, Summatriptan and Botox) and my neuro has declined to prescribe anything new, telling me to wait until the Botox starts to work (which could be months as I just had my first round beginning of April).
I can’t work with constant severe migraines, I have no viable pain management options and I’m not sure when this particularly severe wave of migraines will pass. So I told my job I needed at least two weeks off. They want me to apply for a short term disability and fill out an FMLA form as a fallback.
Well my neuro’s office has let me know that (1) they don’t fill out disability forms, only FMLA, and (2) they only offer 4 migraine days a month.
I’m new to this whole migraine thing but what the hell? Why do they have an office policy on this? Shouldn’t they offer leaves based on the individual patient’s needs? How did they even pick 4 days a month? Is this normal?
I’m really fucking frustrated because not only is my doctor not doing anything to treat my symptoms during this bad patch, but the office is also not approving my request to take off work?! You would think they would have to do one or the other!
