My experience-Getting pregnant- meds and trying new relief methods
Hi all. Looking for some advice or thoughts from anyone who has gotten pregnant and stayed on triptans. I’ve had migraines since around age 14 (32 now). They’ve worsened in frequency over the years and I now have between 15-20 monthly. I’m on Emgality and take either Eletriptan or naratriptan (Eletriptan has worse side effects, mainly being incredibly tired, so only I take that that if I’m at home and not at work). I also sometimes take prescription ibuprofen with a triptan. Ubrelvy samples helped but my insurance won’t cover it. I’ve tried other triptans, preventatives like Propranolol, candesartan, topamax, and Botox. I’ve never done nerve blocks. The only thing that has ever really worked are the triptans I mentioned plus Emgality seems to help a little bit. I also take coq10, riboflavin, and magnesium. I really want to start the process of getting pregnant (will have to do IUI or IVF) but I am terrified of how I will feel w my chronic migraines if I cannot take triptans or Emgality. Ideally, I’d like to continue on triptans but I know not all doctors recommend this. I see a headache specialist at Jefferson for meds who says triptans are probably okay, but I just moved to the Midwest and in my area/with my new insurance there are no headache specialists, so I need to find a few neurologist and ob-gyn (and fertility doctor) who understand my condition and it feels daunting. Does anyone have any advice of new or different methods of relief I could try? I’ll try anything at this point, including dietary changes, new vitamins, etc. And does anyone have any positive stories of taking triptans while pregnant? I’ve read through threads on here about it but I am just feeling down about the situation and positive stories would help! Thanks in advance!
