My experience-Accommodations for work?
So I (27F) work from home in the US, for a company that hires in both Canada and the US.
Canada requires employers to give employees sick days, but the US leaves the decision up the the employers.
As a result, the Canadian employees for the company get sick days, and we in the US do not. We have to apply PTO whenever we call out due to illness, it’s not an option to go unpaid at my job.
Since I constantly suffer from migraines, I’m often using PTO to recover instead of enjoying life. We’re not allowed to take holidays off either, nor do we get floating holidays.
Another coworker from the US also suffers from migraines, and she was put on an attendance warning due to it having enough PTO to cover the “time off.”
I don’t want to be in that predicament, but I don’t know how to go about requesting accommodations since I work from home. I dont know where to start. Would requesting sick days be a possibility?
