My experience-TMJ migraine- when to take a triptan?

Hi all, I get migraines that are definitely caused by my TMJ so one of my first symptoms pre-migraine is jaw pain which then spreads to the back of my head before turning into a migraine.

Sometimes I can stop it before it gets bad but other times I can’t and I’m in bed with the lights off, can’t move and feel really nauseous.

My question is - how do you know when to take a triptan? I know you’re meant to take it before the pain gets bad but sometimes I literally do not know if it’ll get that bad or go away?

Anyone in the same boat? Probably doesn’t help that I didn’t get on with sumatriptan and I’m scared to try the new one I was given in case I feel that bad again 🙃
