My experience-Topamax, amitriptyline, what next? Botox or give Topamax a second chance?

For context:

  • Took Topamax for 1 year, maintenance dose 50mg twice daily. Mood started to feel flat, so weaned off a few months ago.

  • Neuro recently prescribed amitriptyline, but I stopped after a few weeks. Was waking up groggy, falling asleep at work and going straight to bed as soon as work was over. I don’t have a good record with meds that cause drowsiness but wanted to give it a shot anyway.

  • Taking dried ginger capsules 50mg twice daily and magnesium 300mg twice daily. Taking these with more of the ‘better than nothing’ mindset.

I have a neuro appointment next week, and she’ll probably suggest Botox. Topamax was great other than the mood changes, but I’m wondering if it was because it coincided with a stressful period at work. I don’t mind giving Botox a try but I feel like I’m exhausting treatment options so quickly.

Anyone have experience giving Topamax a successful second try, or should I just go for botox?

Many thanks in advance, a fed up fellow migrainer
