My experience-Sudden increase to daily migraines
I (47f) had a concussion over 10 years ago that developed into post-concussion syndrome. One of the major features of my PCS was daily disabling migraines. I finally found a good rehab doctor, started Topamax, and was able to get on with my life. After a couple of years I even discontinued Topamax and was fine.
In December 2019 I had a flu-like illness and afterwards started having episodic migraines - like once every month or two. My doctor prescribed imitrex & zofran and that has handled it pretty well.
Last Saturday I got a migraine and have now had one every day since. They seem to be triggered by visual stimuli and/or light. I am not nauseated but do have light & sound sensitivity and a moderate headache. If I take imitrex & work in a dark environment I can hold the headache to mild.
I haven’t been able to see my pcp yet, but ppl I’ve spoken with at the office are suggesting preventives & a neurology referral are likely to be next steps.
Anybody have a similar experience?
Are there preventives other than Topamax that are effective? I had a lot of trouble with word finding to the point that it impacted my performance at work.
Any other ideas, experiences & insights would be great to hear.
