My experience-Does anyone have experience with migraines after even short computer screen exposure? Looking for anyone who knows anything

Hi,

I have a very specific migraine problem that seems to have confounded every doctor I've ever spoken to. I had a terrible concussion several years ago, and now LCD and LED screens give me migraines. This is all I know.

Electronic lights also look different to me than they used to, like a greater trailing effect, but that's all I can say is different.

I try to make sense of the physics by addressing root causes like, flicker rate, brightness, color, eyestrain, but I can't figure it out. Blue light glasses were useless, screen protectors didn't work. Taking breaks didn't work. At one point nearly a year after the injury, I tried playing Skyrim, thinking that maybe I just needed to distract myself from my fears, but my eyes started to blur, I couldn't think straight, and I ended up with a headache.

I optimistically used to try setting manageable daily exposure goals, such as 30 minutes a day on a computer screen, one hour, etc. Somehow, my condition, anxiety, and migraines seemed to work themselves together to the point where I actually got worse and developed migraines with even less exposure.

At a certain point, I just gave up and bought an eink screen, which is honestly the only reason I finished graduate school. Today I can use it with no ill effects whatsoever for however long I want.

A couple of years ago, I tried using a projector instead, and it seemed to work pretty well. It aggravated my eyes a little bit, but I could watch movies and shows in full color, which was nice. Computer screens still caused weird symptoms though, so I saw the projector as a good intermediate solution. Then, oddly, I went off my SSRI medication (I hated feeling numb and emotionless), and I started to get migraines again.

This tells me that one of two things is happening:

  1. Anxiety is a main factor in my migraines.
  2. SSRIs prevent this type of migraine and concurrent symptoms from appearing.

I'm at a point where I'm experiencing relatively few migraines, as the eink screen is all I really need. But not being able to use LCD/LED color devices really hinders my quality of life, income prospects, and relationships.

Do any of you have any experience dealing with this issue? Have you ever even heard of anyone who has? I've heard of a few, but they all seem to be out-of-contact friends of friends. I don't expect to use LCD/LED all the time, but at least a bit per day without problems could make a huge distance. Traditional migraine medication works a little, but it doesn't seem like a perfect solution, and my insurance situation is a nightmare.
