My experience-Frequent Headaches, not sure of next steps
Hello! I'll try to keep this as brief as I can. I have headaches a few days a month. In my 20s I had headaches related to caffeine withdrawal but I take very little caffeine now. I was recently seeing a neurologist who did some blood work but nothing came up, she just kept prescribing different medication which usually didn't help. I saw a new neurologist who believes it's related to bruxism and craning my neck and wants me to do acupuncture/PT/massage/chiro, but he didn't base this on any tests. Also his office is affiliated with a wellness center so I feel like of course he's going to push for holistic solutions. My dentist suggests a night guard and eating soft food for 2 weeks to see if there is a difference.
I feel like I should push for an MRI just to get some more data, though I know that it's unlikely to point to something obvious. The headaches range in type, sometimes they seem related to my cycle, other times not. I can't jog anymore as my head hurts a little while after. Alcohol seems like a trigger too, which I know isn't the most important thing but it sucks to keep having to eliminate things I enjoy from my life. I am very keen to find out what's wrong, not just stop the headaches. Even if acupuncture works, for how long? It doesn't really explain what is happening. I used to have back pain and I determined it was posture related, so now I feel like I have a clear path from A to B (I know the cause and how to fix it). It's very frustrating not having that for the headaches.
I also think I'm suffering from option paralysis and what I should do first. Find a new doctor? Go to the existing one and push for an MRI? Acupuncture? Soft foods? My copay for a specialist is $50 and I mean, I'm not gonna cry poverty (I make a good salary) but it's a frustrating amount to pay for each appointment. FYI I'm in the NYC area if people have doctor suggestions.
Not sure if it matters but possibly related, I get head pain from pressure that other people are usually fine with. For instance, wearing a headband will make my head hurt. I don't consider that a headache because once I take the item off the pain goes away within a few minutes.
