My experience-Finally diagnosed

I’ve been suffering with almost daily headaches/migraines since I was 7. Got an MRI when I was 8 and was diagnosed with chronic migraines but none of my doctors ever cared to do anything about them. Went to the chiropractor who told me I have chronic tension headaches from my scoliosis and only gave me temporary relief. After having some recent bad episodes I decided to see a specialist who diagnosed me with chronic migraines. She told me that my body is relying on ibuprofen (makes sense - I basically take it like a vitamin) so I got put on tapered prednisone to reset my brain because I’m likely having withdrawal migraines. My main pain with headaches/migraines is neck pain which is why I just thought it was related to my scoliosis. She also prescribed me with topamax, week 1 - 25mg, week 2 - 50mg, and then up to 75 mg, told me to take it at night which I think I prefer so I don’t get the tingling. For emergencies I have Rizatriptan and Cambia. I’m really worried about the topamax, I’m only on day 4 and haven’t seen any side effects everyone else talks about besides flat soda. I already had memory/brain fog issues before this as well as stuttering on words when speaking so I’m nervous this will only make me worse. I’m glad after 20 years I’m getting something done about my migraines but I’m not sure if I want to add more problems to myself. How long will it take for my body to show any side effects, if any? I had to take the Rizatriptan on Friday and it completely got rid of my migraine after a short nap which I’ve never experienced before so that was great.

Also, if there is any advice on how to deal with this new diagnosis that would be great. I’ve just been kind of living my life with this chronic pain as if it’s normal. My migraines are almost always associated with neck pain and I usually just take ibuprofen with coffee/caffeine, take a shower, use a Theragun and put some icy hot on my neck and hope for the best.
