My experience-I’m terrified

I don’t really know where to go from here, my whole life is falling apart. I’m a medical student and I think I’m gonna take the rest of the year off, I cant study or attend classes from the pain, these migraines started with me starting college, 18 years old, but they were episodic, but now I’m 22 and they’re chronic, I’ve tried everything that I could, where I live there aren’t many options, for example the only triptan class available is sumatriptan and they stopped working. no rizatriptan or others. no nurtec which came highly recommended. So just one more of a fuck you from the universe to add on all the other fuck you’s I’ve gotten for the past year. I tried all the preventatives and diets, stopped eating everything i love.

Honestly, I hate doctors and it’s just ironic. We obviously studied migraines on multiple rotations and all the books and professors state as the “treatment” is triptans. Whenever I’m having a really bad migraine going for a week and I can’t attend my classes my A+ colleagues will go: just take a triptan🙄, oH ItS cHrONic.. try Amitriptyline, and would just go off talking like they know what they’re talking about when they absolutely have no idea. There was this one professor who gave a lecture about “headache” and there was this one slide after episodic migraines about how “some people” have CHRONIC migraines and said “omg can you guys believe they have it for more than two weeks of each month??! I can’t imagine living like that”. And once i had an exam and had a week long migraine prior so I couldn’t attend and I contacted my professor and she said “just simply forget the pain and study”.

I’m honestly devastated, if anything I got a REALLY GOOD perspective on how patients actually feel and that nothing is black and white as our books tell us or lectures provide us. There was this professor I spoke to and he told me that I’m my own doctor and nobody can actually help me, they’re just there to simply observe the process.

I hate it here. I hate that it’s taking my life away from me, the only reason I’m stopping this year is because I’m literally having suicidal ideations and I’ve never struggled with my mental health, so i guess it’s really taking a toll on me. Nobody understands, even my parents who used to feel bad are now just bored from the whole thing.

I also have this, I don’t know, dream? That if i take the time off i’ll figure out a magical cure that’ll help me lol. That’s the only thing keeping me going, if you have any recommendations and i mean ANY, please let me know.

Thank you for reading, I hope it gets better for all of us.
