My experience-Topamax Success Story (tentative)
Hey! Just wanted to post a little something here for those of you looking at Topamax but feel a lot of anxiety over it. I know I certainly did. I avoided Topamax for the longest time because of the anecdotes about all those side effects (dopamax, hello).
I'm really not trying to brag, but I hope that this can show that maybe there might be merits to the drug despite its ill repute.
Some background - I'm currently a law student with a background in neuroscience (I did Alzheimer's research way back when), so the prospect of cognitive side effects is really, really frickin' scary to me.
I also have ADHD, anxiety, and chronic migraines with more than half of every week consumed by a headache.
Tried almost everything under the sun before giving Topamax a shot. I still use Emgality and get Botox every so often, but I absolutely refused Topamax until I felt like I had no other options because everything I tried only did so much.
I'm currently on 50mg after titrating up over the course of 6 weeks, and shockingly, no side effects other than mild tingling in my toes. I don't drink soda, so I can't speak on that. However, it's helped my attention span and cut down the migraines by a ton.
Anxiety's gone up, but I can manage it with CBD. Not sure how things will play out in the long run, but so far, so good.
The biggest thing about meds is YMMV, but I hope that this shows sometimes things are worth a go!
