Migraine - Thoughts on Botox for Migraine Treatment : Women-care

What exactly causes a migraine?
The exact cause of migraines is unknown, but they're thought to be the result of abnormal brain activity temporarily affecting nerve signals, chemicals and blood vessels in the brain.

Heyo folks~ I just got my first Botox dose in years and I'm sitting here miserable, wondering if other people have a hard time with it too?

For context: I've had a constant (24/7, no relief except sleep) migraine for the past 7 years. It's draining and debilitating, and I've been grasping at straws to try and find a treatment that works for me. I've done all sorts of medicines, treatments, therapy, etc. You name something, and I've probably tried it.

I tried Botox about 4-ish ago. It didn't help my migraines, so after a year we stopped and turned to other treatments. I recently changed my neurologist to a migraine specialist, and they want me to try Botox again whilst taking a new cocktail of meds. They think that maybe the Botox will work better if paired with the right medication? Idk, I'm not sold on the idea, but I'm literally willing to try anything at this point and I want to trust that they know what they're doing.

To me, Botox makes my whole head/neck/shoulders feel incredibly tight and uncomfortable. And yeah, I get that that's the point, but I'm hyper aware of where it is whenever I move, and I can feel my skin stretching around the goo underneath. It's super freaking unsettling, and it gives me a weird feeling of overstimulation which makes it hard to focus on anything else. Plus the extra tension makes my migraine worse. I had my appointment this morning, and I've spent the rest of the day so far sitting on the couch in a little weighted blanket cocoon with the blackout curtains closed, trying my best not to move or think about it.

Does anyone else hate getting Botox? And if you do...does it at least work for/help your migraines? If it helps me this time around, I'd be 1000% willing to continue, regardless of the discomfort. I would much rather be uncomfortable than constantly in pain. I guess I'm just having a hard time staying positive about it all.

I'm not super sure what I'm looking for by posting this... Advice, anecdotes, and comfort, I suppose? I mostly wanted to vent, but I am genuinely curious about your opinions/experiences with Botox. I hope you're having a good day today ❤️
