My experience-Literally asking for a friend… is this normal?

I have a friend who I can’t visit in real life currently. Only asking for him because I’m not sure he’s able to seek help himself, and I’m not sure if I should look into this further or not. I believe he may have caught Covid-19 or something with similar symptoms. Whatever it is, it doesn’t matter. He’s been complaining about having multiple migraines a day, nearly all day long, for multiple days straight. The few times he’s available, I often receive nonsensical messages. The closest term I can find online is “psychosis”. He’ll ask me a question about basic knowledge related to HIS interests. I’m not gonna ruin any of my anonymity and say what he asked, but I can think of analogy. It’s like if a painter asked you why they can’t paint a house with a pencil. The answer was obvious. All his messages are unrelated to each other and often are also unrelated to what I’m asking. He made up nonsensical names for objects that are already named. Then he started sending random sentences that seem to be constructed from random words from conversations we’ve had over the past few months. It began to almost seem purposeful. Even more disturbing, I later asked him if he did it to be funny, and he said no. When I asked “then why?”, he said “IDK”. BUT apparently his pet does think he’s insane. Yeah. No more messages sent for a while.

I might be in the wrong subreddit, but I’m hoping y’all know more about this than me, and what is normal and what isn’t. Is this a symptom of migraines that you’ve experienced? Or do you think it’s possible my friend is just being a jerk and trolling me?

I’ll probably delete this post soon, but I just can’t get it off my mind so I’d like to see what others have to say.
