My experience-My experience with Topiramate/Topamax (Spoiler: so far so very good)

I started on 25mg Topiamate 9 days ago after having migraines on average 10 times a month. Since starting I have not had a single migraine.

Before I started I obviously spoke with my doctor, he mentioned some side effects - funny taste in the mouth and pins and needles but nothing about drowsiness or brain fog. Around day 4 I experienced the drowsiness/fog and couldn't figure out why so I came online to read what seemed like a lot of Topiramate horror stories that included zombie like experiences, losing jobs etc. Quite a few people saying "Don't go on this drug!".

I feel for those people but everyone is different and I think it's reckless to say that.

My drowsiness and brain fog has subsided, overall I'd say I feel 5/10% drowsier than normal and it's diminishing. I'll take that ANY day over the migraines.

In terms of dose, plan is to ramp up to 50mg, possibly to 75/100mg, 25mg every 2 weeks but will see how I go. I think it's important people realise that you need to ramp up AND down slowly so your body can adjust - don't go on 100mg from the start and don't drop to 0 from 100.

I just wanted to jump online quickly to say that for me Topiramate has been a game changer. As I said.. potentially a new beginning and I "have my life back". Now I'm off to yoga without fear that it will trigger a migraine later in the day. Besides the lack of pain, the mental unburden is real and it's amazing.

Good luck to you all!
