My experience-How to explain to my partner how much “you’re being dramatic” hurts?
I’ve suffered from migraines all my life, so my partner has seen me deal with it for the entirety of our 8+ year relationship.
We started living together about 1.5 years ago, so he has more of a front seat to how much they effect and disrupt my life.
I’ve always been somewhat of a hyperbolic person, like saying “that’s the worst thing that’s ever happened to me” but he doesn’t understand that I’m not exaggerating when I talk about my migraine pain.
Sometimes it actually does feel like someone is shoving a hot spike into my temple, but him saying “you’re just being dramatic” and rolling his eyes hurts. And I’m not sure how to explain it to him when he doesn’t know what it feels like to be crippled by a migraine.
Any advice? Whenever he says it I try not to get too upset because he probably doesn’t mean to hurt me but it makes me really upset.
