My experience-First Neurology Appointment

Hello! This Wednesday I’m going to see a neurologist for the first time, finally after my primary care has approved it! I’m very nervous and excited at the same time. For the last month I’ve been having migraines every day non stop. These episodes last at least 6 hours, with no relief from my usual medication as well as OTC preventatives and the usual heating pads, ice packs, rest, etc. I’ve been doing my part by preparing myself and charting my migraines to fully discuss everything with my doctor. I am hoping to start a new medicine or additional medicine to find some relief, obviously I have personal questions to ask my doctor, but is there anything that I should be asking them that anyone else can think of? I don’t want to miss anything and I want to make sure I am advocating for myself.

I’ve been doing research about Botox and that seems to be what I potentially am interested in. Does anyone have anything thoughts on this?

Also, recently I’ve been hearing positive affects of medical marijuana. I know many people are against it, however I’ve heard several good things about it too. I have not used marijuana before but I was curious about it , especially since it has treated several of my family members for their chronic pain. Does anyone have thoughts about this, or can anyone give me feedback? I’m not sure how I can politely bring that conversation up with my doctor. The reason I am thinking of going this route is because I do not want to be on several prescriptions at the same time or in general ones that produce bad side affects.

Anything helps! 😊

I’m not soliciting any medical advice I am aware none of us are medical professionals, I just want everyone’s personal thoughts, especially if you have recently been treated with these types of medications or know of them.
