My experience-how to know if you've got migraines?

and how to get your doctor to take it seriously?

I'm 19 and about 5 months ago I started getting really bad headaches, that got more and more frequent. Nowadays I get them like 5 days a week. Some aren't so bad, but some are genuinely painful, like sit down in a dark silent room and hate life for a little bit. I've been hesitant to call them migraines because only like 60% are a pulsing on one side of the head, the rest seem more like tension headaches. And the way some people describe their pain, I feel like a lot of mine aren't quite that bad.

Anyway, I definitely want to get them treated whatever they are because painkillers don't help and it's affecting my sleep and my work and just general life. Last time I went to the doctors I kinda got shut down with a "everyone gets headaches, sorry!" Now I'm not really sure what to do.

I think part of me is thinking I've just got the same headaches everyone gets like my doctor said, and I'm just being dramatic crying migraines. But it seems like such a difficult thing to diagnose. How do you know if you've actually got migraines? or just headaches?
