My experience-TW: Graphic Visualization :What My Migraines Feel Like: A Graphic Visualization into a Life of Chronic Pain

The lights need to go off. I yelled to Alexa and cringe. I pull the blanket up around me.

“Here we go… this is a real one. It’s just like how it used to happen. Oh no, I don’t want this. Try to breathe. Deep breaths…..”

“You’re forgetting to breathe…. It’s really coming on now.”

I try to touch my face. I reel back gently the pain is palpable. I face up. The brightness through my eyelids is difficult. I cover my eyes with my hands hovering above my brow to not irritate the pain below. My scalp aches, sinuses roar.

“OK. It’s just a sinus headache. Just a really bad one.”

My neck begins to spasm. The muscles start to ache.

“OK. It’s a migraine.”

The feeling of someone repeatedly bashing your skull in. Someone taking your head and ramming it against a curb repeatedly. Like someone meant to open your mouth and pushes your jaw beyond it’s hinging limit.

“How long before the medicine works?”

Like someone is taking a knife through your eye. Like someone is going in through your temples. Like someone is and beating you punching you senselessly. Like a Charlie horse but the entire side of your face your neck and your shoulders.

“I’m coming back. It aches.”

Almost the same of after a Charlie horse. My muscles jump sending me in twitches. It feels warm. I can touch my face I hold my face gently. I placed my hand on my shoulder gently. I feel tingly and almost hollow on one side of my face. I can breathe.
