My experience-Kind of freaking out?

So I have been dealing w/ chronic tension headaches since Dec 2020 and have gone through so many different treatments, tests, and medications. It’s been exhausting and frustrating and hard to make the most of my life. That is, until a month and a half ago.

In early April, I got a new prescription for Propranolol. I know it’s a common first line of defense, but I’d been prescribed other things first due to a minor potential for it to interact with another medication I’m on. However none of those meds did anything — the most relief I could get was from weekly physio and the what feels like one million stretches a day they got me doing. Then, my GP decided to give Propranolol a try as we were both frustrated because my headaches had been stubbornly worse for a couple months and I’m still on a waiting list for a neurologist.

Since a few days after taking Propranolol I started to get my life back. Since mid-April, I no longer was recording headaches because they just weren’t happening. I could tell the tension in my jaw still existed, but it’s like the drug just kept it from creeping up into my head. It honestly felt like magic and I couldn’t believe it.

This lasted until two days ago, although rumblings had been in the works since Tuesday. I had a headache Friday night, but it was mild. Saturday all day I was fine until I tried going to bed, which I noticed a few times over the past month— I’d be laying down and feel a headache come on. And then Id wake up the next day fine. But today, I woke up and the headache started again within half an hour of waking up. And it’s been around to varying degrees all day. I’m starting to freak out a bit (not too much) that my grace period with Propranolol is coming to an end.

Some other details: - I started on 3x 10mg daily before dialing it back to one pill a day because of increased side effects and I noticed 1 pill still took care of the headache. Since these headaches started rumbling back, I’ve been increasing my dosage again in the hopes of correcting this. - I had an extremely high stress situation develop unexpectedly Thursday. My head felt fine Thurs and all-day Fri until the eve. But it was a bad time. This may have been a trigger? Sex can also be a trigger (although it hadn’t over the past month) and I’ve had that more than usual this week if that’s not TMI. - I noticed that since my physio appointment on Tuesday, my head has seemed more irritated. Maybe it’s inflamed. I don’t know. I noticed my temples twitching more too, especially last night as I was trying to go to bed.

Does anyone have any advice? Or has this happened to them and if so how did it get fixed (or did it at all)?
