My experience-Starting to Feel Despondent

I've been suffering from migraine headaches since I was 16, and they've slowly become more frequent. I really started noticing them at 19 but did not seek treatment until 22. I had my first neuro appointment in January at which point I saw a PA. I had been to PT before this because my headaches start with terrible neck pain and we wanted to rule out that it might be purely musculoskeletal. The PA diagnosed me with migraines after a lengthy appointment and sent me on my way with PRN sumatriptan (max 2x a week). Since I get 12 headache days per month instead of 15, I do not qualify for many treatments like botox.

The sumatriptan works wonderfully, however, it makes me sick and gives me bad chest/rib pain. It gives me indigestion and nausea to the point where I don't want to take it even though it stops the migraine. I also feel like it makes my headaches even more frequent! So she started me on 10mg propranolol twice daily and PRN gabapentin before bed if the headache is severe. I have to be careful taking anything daily that could affect my memory/cognitive function as I am a student and need to be able to take exams all the time. OTC painkillers don't fully take away the aura and I have to take obscene amounts for them to touch the pain.

I feel like I'm taking a sugar pill with the propranolol. It does not work and I feel hopeless. My alcohol consumption has gone up because when I drink my head doesn't fucking hurt. I'm starting to feel like nothing can help me if I'm not willing to hand over my brain on a platter. I see an NP at the neuro office in May, but until then I'm stuck suffering. Even with a low grade migraine, my school work is shit, I'm grouchy, withdrawn, and all I want to do is sleep. Vacations have been almost ruined and I'm at the total mercy of my headaches every day. I'm at a loss and no one seems to understand. I'm starting to feel like I'm out of options and should just take matters into my own hands.
