My experience-Moving / road trip tips
Hey migraineurs. Wondering if anyone has any advice or things to consider - I’m moving cross country this summer and as someone with chronic migraine… I want to make the trip as easy and comfortable as possible. I haven’t done any big road trips since my chronic migraine started.
I will be driving in my car with my dog, probably doing a POD or uhaul ubox for any furniture or large things I want to move. Planning to hire movers for an hour or two on each end to pack / unpack so i don’t have to do any heavy lifting.
As far as the trip itself… how have you survived a long road trip? Frequent breaks or go straight? Snack regularly or plan to stop for meals?
I’ll definitely have meds and water easily accessible. Two of my go-to treatments are ice packs and heating pads and i’m not sure about how to handle that on a road trip where i can’t just pull a headache hat out of the freezer. I take sumatriptan + naproxen as abortives and the sumatriptan can make me drowsy for a bit. It’s not like the whole day is shot but i definitely need to take a break from activity.
It’s been a long time since i’ve done this much driving so i would love any advice or suggestions on making the trip more comfortable! Driving cross country has always been a bucket list thing for me so i want to do what i can to manage my health on the way!
