My experience-Finally, a new place to vent
Relatively new to the migraine group, and even then still not entirely sure that’s what’s been going on. It’s just the latest diagnosis. :P
Tldr; i am sick of being circle-jerked by docs, just want to bury my head in ice so the pain stops
For years and years got told that I was just having recurring sinus infections. But I was refused antibiotics because it never lasted more than a week. Finally got “one” last year that refused to get better over the course of a month and went through three different antibiotics. Saw an ENT and had balloon sinuplasty, symptoms did not get better. ENT and team told me I was making it up and kept giving me different “you’ll feel better by” timelines, so I booked an appointment with a new ENT. Scheduled a full sinuplasty with turbinate reduction, went through the recovery, now instead of intermittent pain it was every. Fucking. Day.
Had to wait three months for a follow up, despite calling frequently and asking why I was still in pain. No answer from doc or nurses until follow up. ENT then told me they had no idea what was wrong with me, but it was “probably” an infection and insisted I rub antibacterial junk in my nose. Scheduled with another new ENT, who took one look at my CT scans and said “I don’t think it’s ever been a sinus issue. I think you should see a neurologist.”
So five months since full sinuplasty with every day pain, sometimes to the point where I couldn’t eat. I tried all OTC meds, nothing helped. Finally started doing 5mg CBD edibles, helped significantly but still had bad days.
Get in to see neurologist, who doesn’t explain jack shit to me but tells me to get blood work and MRI. I downloaded an app to track my symptoms and got those done, had a follow up and she breezed over my options. During this entire period I try to ask what’s going on with me, being unfamiliar with migraines since I had long thought it was just sinus issues, and basically get dismissed. I went with Qulipta with Rizatriptan for the breaks.
And I am still in pain every day. I messaged and talked to neurologist who just basically chastised me for not understanding that the triptan is not like a pain med and I should take it before the pain starts, despite never explaining anything about it or Qulipta in the first place. So I remind her I am in pain every day, so what’s the point? She dismisses me and tells me to only take the triptan when I “need” to. Okay.
I get a really bad day where the triptan doesn’t break it and after some more headaches from her and her staff, they agree to give me a steroid shot. It does jack shit.
I tried messaging her again last week and she and her team never answered. At this point I’m trying to only take the Rizatriptan twice a week, and it has officially stopped working. Don’t think the Qulipta ever started, either. I am waking up in pain, going to work in pain, going to bed in pain. Also weird sidenote but I’ve been getting really bad acne like I’m 14 again, especially all under my hair. So that’s fun.
I am very very sick of this game with doctors. I just want to know what’s wrong with me and if I can find a way to manage it. I think my friends and family are sick of hearing me complain, so I decided to vent here. If anyone had funny chronic pain memes or suggestions (besides keying the doctor’s car, can’t do that lol), feel free to send them my way. Thanks
