My experience-Any advise would be appreciated! Scheduled for a lumbar puncture after MRI

Hi! I have some questions about my headaches and some tests I'm now doing, and would like some advise, if you're willing to read.

I have been suffering from chronic migraines and headaches for almost two years now. Basically either I have a manageable tension like headache with a stiff neck, or an unbearable pain on my right side with nausea, light and sound sensitivity etc. I can't remember the last time I had a good day. I was finally able to see a neurologist about six months ago. She has put me on a number of different medications including preventative and rescue: the Ajovy shot, all sorts of triptans, several nose sprays, etc. I haven't responded to anything so far, I'm so miserable and frustrated. My doctor scheduled both a MRI and a lumbar puncture. I had the MRI last week, and the results were normal! I have "mild" thickening in my sinuses and a slight deviated septum. My lumbar is scheduled for tomorrow. My question is, should I still do the lumbar puncture if my MRI was normal? Will it rule out other stuff that the MRI didn't or will it give me more answers? Basically I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth the hassle and what the lumbar puncture could tell me. I am desperate for answers, but I have to take the cost of it into consideration (it's expensive!) plus I'm nervous :) I asked my doctor, but she hasn't responded.

Also if anyone has any experience with a lumbar puncture, I'd greatly appreciate some information. Is there anyone else who doesn't respond to their medication? Why could this be? Thanks so much for any help!
