My experience-What's the management goal?
Hi, new here. 27, have dealt with migraines since childhood. Thing is, my parents too me to an eye doctor about it when I was like 12, who said my eyes were fine so I couldn't be having migraines. After that I just stopped talking about it because my parents insisted I was making it up and wasn't having "real" migraines.
As such I just...got used to it, I guess. Never tracked symptoms or anything, and figured since I'd learned to "deal" with it then yeah, they weren't "real" migraines.
A couple weeks ago when I was dealing with insomnia to begin with, I popped two migraines in 8 days. The second one started about 6PM on Thursday evening and kept going until around 3AM. I ended up being so exhausted and dizzy Friday and Saturday at work I left work early Saturday because of it.
Called my doctors office Monday got squeezed in Tuesday. Had a mildly funny moment where she asked if I had a migraine right then and I said "oh, no, my eyes just hurt real bad is all" and she kinda went 🤨
Anyway she gave me qulipta for prevention and a ubrelvy sample for breakthrough. All of this to finally loop back around to my question which is what is the pain management goal for migraines? I've dealt with it for so long, convinced it was just normal I don't know what I should be expecting.
I took the ubrelvy last night because I thought I had one coming on based on light sensitivity, but I'm wondering if I waited too long? By the time I took it my head had been hurting I guess moderately for about an hour, and while it didnt get worse and seemed not to last as long, it didn't go away entirely.
Is that the main purpose? The goal isn't zero pain its just less intense and not as long? Or did I in fact wait too long to take it? From what I can tell I dont always have an aura before it happens, and this is all so new for trying to treat im not sure how much to pay attention too. I will be checking out the tracker in the sidebar later.
Anyway TLDR not new to head pain am new to treatment, unsure of what the goal is with management, TIA.
